Salt and Light Ministries is an international family of leaders and churches who have been drawn together by a common desire to see the Body of Christ grow to be all God wants it to be. We believe in strong, loving and committed relationships within local churches and across the Body of Christ throughout the nations. We also recognise that God is restoring to the church many New Testament ministries to equip the church for dynamic and effective mission to the world. Salt and Light Ministries grew up around the leadership of Barney Coombs, who is received widely for his apostolic ministry, and as a pastor to pastors.

'The Journey'

 This was the word God gave to Barney Coombs on the day that he was ordained to pastor God's people in the late sixties. Within a few years, a group of leaders and ministries in the south of England began to be linked together around Barney's leadership. All were caught by the revelation that the body of Christ was essentially relational and would eventually come to fullness of stature. All believed in the priesthood of all believers and that the gospel was not only centered in the Cross but also in the Kingdom of God. All fervently believed in a victorious eschatology and that God's plan included the summing up of all things in Christ.

 During the last thirty-odd years, hundreds of other leaders and ministries have felt joined in heart, and today there exists a network of leaders and churches that has spread to Africa, Asia, Europe, India and the American continent.

 It is difficult to adequately grasp the full significance of being joined to so many valiant men and women, many of whom have hazarded their lives for the gospel's sake; but it has happened. We can only stand back and marvel at God's marvellous handiwork.
 

What was important to us?

• The Word of God, worship and prayer as foundational to our life in Christ
• The Church as the Body of Christ, with every member playing its part
• Relationship as the heart of how we are called to build together
• The Holy Spirit's ministry in the life and worship of the believer and the church
• Cell groups as foundational to building up a healthy Body
• Personal Pastoring as a key to care, accountability and discipleship resulting in personal maturity in Christ
• Mission as God's people being thrust out into God's world to be 'salt and light'
• The Kingdom of God as a dynamic reality among us and as the first priority of our lives

 These were the sort of things that launched us into being - and that still lie at the heart of all we seek to do.
